Christianity and Prophecy—Marc Ruel [French]

Christianity and Prophecy—Marc Ruel [French]

Where is the traveller most likely to go astray? Is it on a road that he travels every day? No, rather in some unknown region, where all roads are new to him. It is there that a misleading clue may lead him into a swamp, or a lying and treacherous guide may lead him into an ambush!

It is the same with the Word of God. Prophecy is an unstudied subject in which there is a risk of going astray. It seems difficult and it is true that it requires a study that takes into account the whole of the revelations, in order to avoid misusing them. The Bible is one whole, and it is by prayerfully studying prophecy in true dependence on the Holy Spirit that we will gradually enter into God's plans for the future and be protected from misinterpretation.

Those who claim to have received new revelations themselves are in danger of deceiving believers. What gives them the formidable influence they sometimes have, if not the too general ignorance of Christians on this subject? By drawing attention to some striking detail in little-known passages concerning prophecy, Satan makes Christians feel how ignorant they have been until now. But his aim is certainly not to instruct them in the truth: he wants to destabilise them, to make them lose the peace that Jesus gained for them on the cross... to make them lose the happiness that the gospel brings. To escape this trap, we must study the whole Word of God, without leaving prophecy aside!
