Studies in the Minor Prophets is a seven volume commentary series on these twelve neglected but vitally important prophetic books. They are commonly called ‘minor’ due to their size in comparison with the larger prophetic books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, but this does not mean they are minor in importance. They reveal the low spiritual state of the people of Israel and their subsequent bondage to the Gentile powers. Obadiah: The Day of the Lord is Near
Obadiah is a short book of one chapter. It graphically declares God’s judgment of the nation of Edom for their persistent hatred of Israel and their treachery toward God’s people.
Jonah: The Disobedient Prophet
Jonah, the disobedient prophet, is in many ways a picture of the wayward people of Israel, but surprisingly his life also serves as a type of the Lord Jesus Christ. In a practical way we also see in the life and ministry of Jonah that our God is the “God of second chances.” Jonah was sent by God to the city of Nineveh to warn them of coming judgment but Jonah also had lessons to learn about God’s mercy.
Nahum: The Book of the Vision
Nahum predicts the final destruction of Nineveh and the Assyrian Empire. Jonah would have been happy at this turn of events. In several visions Nahum graphically describes the end of that wicked city and its kingdom.
